Burning Horizon — a sky set alight in pink and orange, where soft, billowing clouds catch the sun as it slips behind distant mountains. The silhouetted ridgelines ground the scene while the luminous sky conveys movement and calm simultaneously. Layered, atmospheric color gives the composition a cinematic sweep—front-row skywatching, no tickets required. Ready to warm a living room, bedroom, or office wall.
Artists Statement
I work primarily in photography—digital files and medium-format film—printed as large-format archival pigment and giclée editions for display. My images are built from field moments: quick roadside frames, bracketed exposures, and longer sequences that I later edit and recompose in the studio. Each final image carries the immediacy of an observed instant plus the control of careful post‑production.
I photograph skies and horizons because they are where change makes itself visible: shifting light, collapsing color, clouds that rearrange the scene in minutes. My work presents those moments as events worth returning to. I’m fascinated by how color temperature and scale alter perception — how a warm band of light can compress distance, or how a silhouetted ridge can make the sky read like a staged backdrop. The practice conveys an interest in memory and the minor amplifications we apply to remembered light; the photographs express those heightened recollections rather than literal reportage.
My influences are practical and cinematic: roadside epiphanies, evening commutes that pause traffic for a good reason, the color work of film stills, and the lineage of landscape photography that treats atmosphere as a narrator. In the field I prioritize speed and observation; in the studio I refine, sometimes combining exposures, adjusting tonal relationships, and carefully grading color to preserve luminosity without flattening depth. I use scale and negative space as compositional tools so color and atmosphere do the expressive work.
Across the body of work the horizon returns as a recurring figure: sometimes quiet, sometimes urgent, always changing. The photographs aim to reveal how ordinary atmosphere can be both dramatic and reassuring in a room. If you like sunsets, great. If you don’t, these images might make you a little kinder to the sky.
